Sport manager article summary

My field of study:
I am studying in business at the
Ahuntsic College. I chose this program because I am really interested in everything related to the administration. I like to understand how the things are done, every little action. In other words, I like the management.

A Day in the Life of a Sport Manager:
General managers(GM) take care of all the coordination charge concerning their employer; in other words for a team. When the season is on, they work a lot, occasionally every day. General managers don't follow the team when it is away for games, they stay at the establishment of the team. They don't have to follow the team do to a good job. However, some of them go with the team. Normally, the most experienced. They are only a little bit. The job of the general manager is to acquire new players. He re-signed the players he want to stay in the team and sign new players to get his team better. The biggest difficulty is to know the trade you don't do, this is way more important than the trade you've done. Furthermore, when you make an exchange, you need the approval of all the direction. Don't forget that you don't want to break the chemistry in the locker room. The managers have to take decision during the draft. Choose the right player for his team is an art. Also they have to respect the salary cap. They take care of every salary from the player to the coach. Managers organize all the expenses, not just salary, for a good efficiency. After make those big decisions, they have to explain them. This explanation goes through the media. Manager need to know that they will never make the unanimous. This job is really difficult, you have a lot of pressure, and don't be surprised, you will certainly work for many teams.

A lot of different people is working as a manager. But every manager have links to the sport, that is the basic. Manager need to start on the low level to gain experience. However, to be in the elite of the manager, you need to have a lot of knowledge in business. The setup in the sport had really developed in the past century. New job start to exist, but in a limited way. The sport business is now familiar but in a limited context.
